Field Trip to the Capital!

On Friday, May 18th, our school, Colegio Timoteo, had the amazing opportunity to take the guys to the Capital (Santo Domingo) and we went to the zoo and aquarium. This was totally a God run trip because He provided the funds so that all of the boys could go free of costs. They also had the awesome opportunity to eat pizza (which for most of them was a first because pizza here is a luxury) God even had control of the weather. As we were in the bus, it was downpouring and the streets were flooding, but God cleared it all up as we arrived at our first destination, the zoo. For most of these guys, they haven't had the opportunity to leave the Mountain in Jarabacoa, nor let alone see an animal in the zoo. It was such a privilege and a blessing to be a part of these guys' experience and to watch them as they were fascinated by the things they saw. Santo Domingo was like an entire new world for them because it is a more modernized city than Jarabacoa. Even the bathroom was an experience for most of these guys. When they would go to wash their hands they were shocked that hot water came out (me too because it has been awhile since I have felt hot water come out of the faucet and I didn't expect it). The hand dryers, at first, were a curious  and even kind of a  scary thing, but then quickly changed into a fun and exciting thing that had us in the bathroom for a long period of time. So many of the boys said to me with laughs and joy, "Hey Jim!!! Look how it flaps my skin back and forth!!" Haha, it made me laugh. It was even funnier to watch the faces of the men who were walking into the bathroom to see these boys having so much fun with the hand dryers and me trying to tear them off of them so that we could go eat.
